Grimme-Institut (Marl, DE)

Mission

The Grimme Institute perceives itself as a forum for the debate on political communication in the Federal Republic of Germany and performs theoretical and practical educational work within the realm of the media and ICT.

Its tasks include the observation, analysis and assessment of media offers and developments – from television to radio, Internet and multimedia – as well as expertise and knowledge transfer between social groups. The public are most likely to be familiar with the Institute’s two prestigious competitions: the Adolf Grimme Prize for exemplary contributions to television and the Grimme Online Award for outstanding quality offers on the internet.

Promotion of media quality and media competence is aimed at central areas of the modern social, cultural, and political life. In 2010 the Adolf Grimme Institut merged with the ecmc European Centre for Media Competence (ecmc) to an enlarged Grimme Institute. The fusion enables the Institute to function as an important and widely appreciated forum for media culture in an even more multifaceted and diverse manner.
